The mile end

The Mile End is always the best place to spend an afternoon with a good friend. There are lots of really great vintage stores (Annex Vintage, Empire Vintage, Local 23, etc etc) and many great places to eat... Today we headed to Comptoir 21 for a quick lunch. They are famous for their fish and chips but I find the shrimps + salad really delicious and not as filling. Much noms.

p.s. don't you hate my hair? 'cause i hate my hair too.

SOS: Tartan Plaid Coat

Hi there. This is a segment called SPEND OR SAVE - yes, a clever and original title. It was originally entitled "Spend or Run to the Nearest Zara", but I don't want this whole blog to revolve around a very serious and dangerous addiction. Like Yeezy once said, "You can be wearing a Zara pant, and then a girl walks in wearing the CĂ©line version, and you feel like shit." (at that point I was like YE, I FEEL DAT). I can't even count the number of times I've drooled over a trend, bought a dupe online, and felt really guilty. Because let's be honest, designers spend a lot of time perfecting their craft and artistry to create something that is beautiful, luxurious, handmade. But wait a minute, what about the rest of us? I can't afford this coat that's more than half my year's salary, so I'll purchase this dupe that was mass produced by a huge retailer that allows most girls like me to follow trends without breaking the bank. So the question is, who am I to believe? Who am I to devote my fashion sympathies to? Is cashmere worth spending THAT much more than cashmere-like cotton? Why is neoprene so damn expensive, WHY? Questions that will never have one answer...

Philosophical fashion thoughts aside, this is how my FW'13 coat journey went: I want a long black coat to match everything. No, I want a long camel coat because it looked so good on Kim K. No, I want a tartan plaid coat. Decisions decisions! So, this begs the question: would you spend on this Stella coat or save with the Zara version?

Black DNM

I think these jeans I ripped turned out half okay(was that front slit a mistake? I'm starting to think so...) Although it would look really cool ripped all the way down. Alas, sandal season is almost over, but I'm breaking out this pair for the last time. It's weird that I'm so psyched for fall yet there are just some things about summer I can't let go.

p.s. bringing the 90's ponytail back. sorry (not sorry) about my hereditary hair line that makes pony tails impossible to look cute.

Coats for FW'13

1. Pastel

2. Big Lapels

4. Leather Accents

That time of year has come where, like most girls, I am beginning to think about my fall/winter look. Sometimes, it becomes difficult to show off that outfit you've been waiting to wear out under that bulky coat (especially living in Canada, mind you), so why not make that item the statement piece of your outfit? Here are a few coat trends I've had my eyes on for this fall/winter that will hopefully make the next six months a little more bearable.

H&M x Isabel Marant

The long awaited and highly anticipated Isabel Marant for H&M collection will be out in just 45 DAYS. Are you still breathing? If yes, then take a look at this lookbook. If you're still alive then there's something wrong with you. The style and pieces are everything that I had expected it to be - boho parisienne chic with tough leather and boyfriend jackets. However, strangely enough, I expected Marant to come out with 'knockoffs' of her own Bekket sneaker wedge, just as Phillip Lim did for his Pashli bag for his Target collection. Were they not THE shoes that changed EVERYTHING? 'Sneaker heels' no longer meant this (and thank god). In addition to this situation (SHOEtuation?), I only see two pairs of shoes in this collection - the Stanley-esque bejeweled pumps and the fringe boots most likely derived from the Mony boot which appeared a few seasons ago. I'm seriously hoping that there will be more shoes, because that's what I was excited to see in the first place. SHOES SHOES SHOES.

So what do I plan to get? Even though the whole boho look isn't my thing, I still can't take my eyes off that tribal print jacket with beads. The laced up leather pants and boyfriend wool jacket/blazer are a no brainer for me though (duh).

The Isabel Marant for H&M collection hits stores November 14. You can view the rest of the lookbook (including men's) here.
