Throwback Thursdays - School Dance and Prom

If you asked anybody who knows me, or even went to high school with me, about my style, I assure you that every one of them would have something different to say about it. Nevertheless, I went through many style phases in high school - most of which I WHOLE HEARTEDLY regret. Marissa circa 2007-2008 was a scene kid. Yeah, remember those Myspace whores with the ultra teased hair, black eyeliner, and hoodies/coloured skinny jeans/vans? That was me. I'm not talking 'emo kid', I'm talking full-on scene queen. I've seriously tried to eradicate that part of my life, but it's next to impossible with Facebook these days. Throughout the 9th grade I started wearing my mom's vintage clothes and I was really into pin-up makeup and fashion. I definitely half-assed that style and looked ridiculous. I met my best friend Meghan (Maquettex) in grade 10 and together, we started to get into 'Urban Outfitters' style as well as taking an interest in high fashion. I think it was only until my senior year in high school that I started having an eye for styling and putting together outfits. Everything before that was more like "Ooo, I like this leopard hoodie, let's wear it with these purple skinny jeans and zebra striped shoes and pile on Hello Kitty jewelry!" I wanted to be out there all the time. I still am, but I've learned to be subtle when I have to.

Meghan and I at our first (and last) school dance during our senior year. Yeah, we were never into them. Wore a lace dress from H&M with a thrifted flannel shirt over it and military boots that were Meghan's. Even loved 90s grunge then; Prom. I wore a cheap but beautiful chiffon lavender dress from Light in the Box, Meghan in a stunning tiered dress from BHLDN, and our other friend Joji in a pink rose-ruffle dress from BCBG; My friend Jackie and I. Her dress was cinched at the waist with Swarovski crystal snowflakes.
